-

THE GARDEN OF WORDS_image #3The Gold Coast Film Festival is almost upon us, and with it is their usual Cool Japan screenings. In the past this has led to Australian premiere’s of titles such as “Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below” – but this year they will be holding the World Premiere of Makoto Shinkai’s latest film The Garden of Words (Aka. Kotonoha no Niwa). This screening is set to be held at the Pacific Fair Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas at 4pm on the 28th April 2013.

To celebrate this world exclusive event, the GCFF will also be welcoming the film’s masterful Japanese director, writer and animator, Makoto Shinkai to Broadbeach for an up-close-and-personal exploration of his latest dramatic animation plus to discuss his body of acclaimed anime work. This is the first time Shinkai has ever visited Australia to present his work. The Garden of Words is the fourth feature film from Shinkai whose previous works include Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, 5 Centimetres per Second and The Place Promised in our Early Days… as has made a fan out of myself and I am sure many others.

Makoto Shinkai

I am extremely proud to be presenting the World Premiere of my latest film The Garden of Words at the Gold Coast this month. The Gold Coast Film Festival has been such a great supporter of my films, as have my Australian fans, and it is with this gesture of bringing the World Premiere down under ahead of the film’s premiere here in Japan that I say ‘thank you’.

Casey Marshall Siemer | GCFF Director

We are honoured to have Makoto Shinkai as our special guest at this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival. Every screenshot from his new anime masterpiece The Garden of Words could be framed and hung in an art gallery. Shinkai has again done the impossible – he has painted pictures of human emotions on the screen with such depth and clarity, it will take your breath away.

The Garden of Words is not just for the anime and Shinkai fans. If you have never seen an anime film before, this is the perfect moment for you to immerse yourself into a whole new film experience.
