While no formal release date has been confirmed just yet, it seems that Madman Entertainment may be releasing DVD and Blu-ray releases of Studio Ghibli’s anime film From Up on Poppy Hill, possibly in July 2013.
This follows several theatrical releases over the course of 2012, including the Japanese dubbed screenings for Reel Anime 2012 and a limited English dubbed screening in select cinemas around Australia. Expect to hear more on this title in the coming weeks.
Umi is a high school girl, living with her family in the beautiful seaside town of Yokohama Bay. Each day she raises a pair of flags in anticipation of the return of her father, a sailor who went missing some years previously.
One day Umi meets Shun, a member of the school’s literature club, and the two students decide to restore the school’s rundown clubhouse to its former glory. However, when they learn that a local businessman plans to demolish the clubhouse for redevelopment, they band together with their schoolmates in order to save it from destruction. In the process Umi begins to fall in love with Shun, but there’s a secret she will uncover that threatens their future happiness together…
