Madman Entertainment’s Top 20 Anime Releases Survey – #3: Dragon Ball Z

Madman Entertainment’s Top 20 Anime Releases Survey – #3: Dragon Ball Z 1Over the last month or so, Madman Entertainment have been asking their fans to vote for their favourite anime releases from the company (Along with other releases which due to their diversity, most likely won’t make it into this top 20) and giving away on-the-spot prizes to those who provided interesting vote justifications. The intention of this is to generate what fans would consider the companies Top 20 series releases.

I like a good portion of youth in the early-2000’s spent their mornings watching the show Cheez TV, which was a morning show held on Channel 10 on weekday and Sunday mornings and offered competitions, segments and most predominantly – morning anime which could very well have been the introduction to many into the world of anime (In my case it was actually Agro’s Cartoon Connection and their showing of Sailor Moon – and maybe Samurai Pizza Cats which I can’t remember as well… but I digress). Dragon Ball Z from memory was in that awkward time after Pokemon which was more or less dedicated to getting ready for school – so I never really got the chance to watch it.

However, it seems like many people have enjoyed Dragon Ball Z with it placing #3 in Madman Entertainment’s Top 20 Anime Releases. Here is what the team at Madman had to say on its placement:

When you want anime at its most epic filled with action, adventure, and unique characters, the king is still Dragon Ball Z! Maybe the most recognisable anime today, DBZ defines the Shonen formula. The fun, innocent minded main character with a big heart – the big hair – and the awesome escalation of power that truly goes way, way over 9000!

Following Goku from the original Dragon Ball onwards shows us the entire life of a hero from child to parent. With his good humour, kindness, and strength he wins over enemies and protects his friends and family, all of whom we grow to love. Even, or especially – his powerful rivals like Piccolo and then Vegeta, for all their flaws. Not to mention, it has the greatest fights ever!
