Following their decision to release details on Persona 4: Dancing All Night yesterday, ATLUS have chosen to share details on their Nintendo 3DS exclusive title Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth which was another one of the four recently announced Persona games across multiple platforms. This game is set to take place as a first-person dungeon crawling RPG (Which is what Daisuke Kaneda has been known for with his work on the Etrian Odyssey franchise) and will feature all party members from both Persona 3 and Persona 4.
Interestingly enough, it actually fits in quite well with Persona 3’s chronology, if you choose to believe it is canon. In Persona 3 the Gekkoukan High School culture festival is cancelled due to rain – and most notably the protagonist loses an entire weekend due to being unwell. However that blank spot may serve as the perfect fit for this new game.
The game takes place in Inaba, namely the final day of the Yasogami High School Culture Festival. At one point during the festival a bell toll rings throughout the school, and the investigation team (and potentially others) find themselves trapped in an alternate reality where a mysterious clock tower appears in the school. On the other hand, S.E.E.S. a year earlier arrives at the Tartarus to hear the same bell ringing, and also being transferred to the same world.
You must take control of either protagonist, and lead them and their party of Persona users to the towers end, while also working towards helping new characters Rei and Zen, first years at Yasogami High School who have had their memories stolen.
Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth does not have an international release date planned, but is set to launch in Japan on the 5th June 2014.
