Anyone interested in End of Ember has just over a month to try out the current build. Bad Plan Studios has confirmed the playtest will close on 6th December 2026, with the team effectively scrapping the current build and moving on to what they’re calling Ember’s ‘Final Form’.
The playtest is free on Steam for Windows PC and is open through Scream Fest (so players have until 6th December to play the current version before it’s gone for good). Bad Plan has also mentioned a new demo is due in Q1, though it revealed very little else.
End of Ember is a twin-stick shooter in which Ember is accidentally sent to Hell on her birthday. She’s not alone in Hell, though, as her ally is Abe, a talking chainsaw gun that runs on hatred. You play as Ember as she clears rooms full of demons and traps, picking up teeth along the way to spend at the shop on weapons, bombs, and other items.
Hatred is also a major factor. Spending it at a Mutator will transform Abe into a different weapon form. Cursed items upgrade Ember’s guns and bombs before each boss fight. The bosses are described as horrific,,and the game features graphic cartoon gore.
