An action RPG marking producer Kouji “Cozy” Okada’s return to the genre, Villion:Code, has been announced for release in North America and Europe in 2027 by Idea Factory International. The game will be available digitally on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam, with physical editions offered for PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
Alongside Okada as producer, the game’s development team includes artist Ilya Kuvshinov, scenario writer Tadashi Satomi, composer Tsukasa Masuko and the creative team at Compile Heart.
Villion:Code is set in the near future, where humanity is described as nearing extinction. The Adhvan Resilience School was established to resist an approaching calamity, but the academy city was later attacked by monstrous creatures known as GEMs. In response, the city sealed itself off inside a bubble, cutting off all means of escape. Those trapped inside must contend with their own pasts as the story unfolds, with the cause of the anomaly surrounding the city left unexplained. The story is delivered through Conversation and Investigation events, featuring artwork by Ilya Kuvshinov, with player choices affecting how events unfold.
The game’s dungeons, referred to as the Sankhara Space Time, are randomly generated, 360-degree tube-shaped environments inspired by the Ten Evils in Buddhism. Players navigate Adhvan City through these dungeons, fighting GEMs and working through obstacles along the way.
Combat centres on weapons called Genome Arms, which are mutated weapons each carrying distinct attack traits. Players can switch between melee and ranged styles to link attacks into combos. Genome Cubes can be crafted using Ampules collected from dungeons, and further upgraded with EX Factors found in dungeons and shops, which improve base stats, provide additional bonuses and unlock passive skills.
