Nippon Ichi Software America has revealed The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster, a new storybook adventure headed to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Steam. If the naming style sounds familiar, this is because it is new work from the same creative team behind The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince and The Cruel King and the Great Hero – and continues the hand-drawn picture book art style of the previous releases.
The setting is built around a magical disease called Paper Mortis, which turns people into picture books and turns picture books into monsters. Players follow Mono, a young girl whose sister contracts the illness, for which there is no cure. In order to reach her sister, who is being held in a location called the Libratarium, Mono agrees to work alongside Mar, a monster driven by a desire for revenge.
Progression involves entering different storybooks and uncovering the stories of the girls who became them. Along the way players will solve puzzles and face bosses while attempting to track down Mono’s sister. More details are set to be announced in the future, with no release date locked in yet.
