Publisher HAKURO and indie developer Kalinarm have released KAZ on Steam, offering a minimalist roguelike built around grid-based challenges, score chasing and an interactive soundtrack.
KAZ tasks players with chaining combos while managing buffs, penalties, items and spells across increasingly demanding runs. Its standard modes reward quick reactions and rapid inputs, while the alternative No Stress mode replaces time pressure with a limited number of moves for a more tactical experience.
The full release includes more than 145 quests spread across five modes, alongside over 110 items that can be used to develop different strategies. Filling the curse gauge forces players to select from more than 35 maluses, which may reveal a hidden power or bring a run to an early conclusion. Players can also choose from more than 25 themes, with each option changing both the game’s visual presentation and the power-ups available during a run.
KAZ also features a reactive soundtrack that becomes increasingly intense as the player’s score rises. Weekly and monthly challenges are also planned to unlock following launch, providing additional leaderboard-focused objectives.
