Agent 64: Spies Never Die will launch for PC via Steam on 11 August 2026, bringing its Nintendo 64 inspired espionage action to players. This game is developed by solo creator Replicant D6. Console versions are also planned, although their release timing has not yet been announced.
The first person shooter follows secret agent John Walter as he attempts to stop his arch nemesis, Dominic Pulp. Players can tackle the 14 mission Story Campaign alone or cooperatively, completing objectives in any order as they fight guards, rescue civilian hostages, steal secret plans and occasionally use disguises to avoid enemies. Missions feature increasingly complex challenges across the available difficulty levels, with additional maps and character skins available to unlock. Combat allows players to fire from the hip or aim through weapon sights, while Body Armor can be found to increase health. The arsenal ranges from machine guns and remote mines to futuristic plasma rifles.
Agent 64: Spies Never Die will also include local split screen matches for up to four players and online multiplayer supporting eight competing players alongside as many as eight bots. Available modes include traditional Deathmatch, the territory focused Zone mode and Briefcase mode, which tasks agents with holding classified documents for as long as possible. Custom multiplayer lobbies can be modified with more than 70 cheats and gameplay settings. These include enlarged heads, melee disarms, slower bullets and Paradox Mode, where players’ weapons change at random.
Replicant D6 said the project combines the style of classic Nintendo 64 shooters with ideas drawn from more recent action films, while removing some of the technical restrictions associated with older games.
Rare’s classic shooters were my favorite games as a child, and there’s so much fun from the N64 era that feels totally forgotten today. Agent 64 takes all of the adrenaline-fueled memorable moments from the classics, trims out the limitations, and adds in my inspirations from modern action film classics like John Wick. Gamers who played Rare’s beloved titles will feel immediately at home, and those who haven’t will discover a new love for a benchmark era of gaming they missed out on.
