Developer Origame Digital and publisher label Fellow Traveller have released a new story trailer for Penguin Colony, an Antarctic narrative horror game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness and The Shadow Out of Time.
Set in 1939, Penguin Colony follows two rival groups as they travel deeper into the Antarctic wasteland in search of something ancient buried beneath the ice. One group is made up of Nazis seeking power and proof of their supposed superiority, while the Kaitiaki carry a responsibility passed down through generations to ensure that whatever lies below never awakens again. The story is viewed through the eyes of a penguin, placing players in an unusual position as they witness the expedition unfold from a quieter, more detached perspective.
This new trailer sets out to provide prospective players with a closer look at the game’s central conflict, including the rival factions, the mysterious being beneath the ice and the growing danger surrounding the expedition. Penguin Colony shall seek to use fragmented narration, environmental storytelling and open-ended exploration to show a group of power-hungry Nazis descending into obsession, paranoia and madness.
Penguin Colony is planned to launch later this year for PC via Steam, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version to follow soon after. The game will also include day one localisation in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Te Reo Māori and Arabic.
