HoYoverse has announced that the version 2.8 update for its urban fantasy action RPG, Zenless Zone Zero, is scheduled for release on 6 May 2026. Titled New: Eridan Sunset, the update marks the conclusion of the game’s second season (with the big Version 3.0 around the corner), and introduces a variety of new content, including additional playable agents and technical optimizations. HoYoverse has also confirmed that the game will be expanding its availability with an upcoming launch on Steam.
The narrative for the new version focuses on a mysterious target named Ramiel, who has become the centre of interest for several factions within the Outer Ring. Players will encounter Promeia, who serves as the executioner of Krampus and an intelligence contact. She enters a temporary alliance with the Proxies and an upgraded version of Billy to investigate the situation.
Two new S-Rank agents will be added to the game during this update. Promeia is an Ice Anomaly agent capable of triggering the Abloom effect by consuming Trial by Cold. Her kit includes the Bound Absolution state, which is activated via her EX Special Attack to enable automatic perfect dodges. She also offers support capabilities by increasing squad Abloom damage when paired with specific agent types.
Joining her is Starlight Billy, an S-Rank Physical Rupture agent. This character represents an upgraded version of Billy, featuring a combat motorcycle and his signature Starlight Knight flying kick. His mechanics allow him to deal Physical burst damage that scales with his maximum health, while certain skills provide health restoration. Alongside these new arrivals, the update will include rerun banners for the agents Lucia, Orphie, and Magus.
Combat mechanics are being expanded with the introduction of the Wind attribute for enemies and a new Vortex system. Under this system, inflicting other attribute anomalies on a Wind-affected enemy will trigger a Vortex instead of a Disorder effect. This results in area-of-effect damage that matches the applied element.
A new event titled Marcel Bootopia will allow players to explore a resort island using Eous to rescue trapped Bangboos. Successful completion of the event rewards players with Booltergeist, an A-Rank Bangboo that uses lasers in combat. Other activities include the Ultimate Verdict Trial and the addition of a new outfit for Hoshimi Miyabi called Dignified Blossom, which is based on the traditional style of the Hoshimi family.
System improvements featured in this version include a Polychrome Guide to help players track limited-time rewards and an auto-delete function for storage management.
