While this news comes with hopes that maybe an Icon Class ship in the current fleet may one day be designated to those of us in Australia, Royal Caribbean has announced the latest addition to its fleet, Hero of the Seas, which is scheduled to begin operations out of Miami in August 2027. As the fourth vessel in the Icon Class, the ship will feature eight distinct neighborhoods and a range of existing and new attractions designed for multi-generational families.
The ship will house 28 different dining venues, including the new Orleans Parish Supper Club. This venue is themed after the early 20th century French Quarter and serves Cajun and Creole dishes alongside live jazz performances. Another featured dining option is the Royal Railway Hero Station, which uses a combination of technology and sets to create an immersive train-car dining experience. Additionally, the Surfside neighborhood will introduce a dedicated space for family cooking classes, where guests of various ages can learn culinary skills together.
Water-based activities are a central focus of the ship, which will feature nine pools in total. This includes Coconut Cove, a new pool area situated near the Central Park neighborhood, and an expanded version of The Hideaway. The latter is an adults-only space that now includes two pools and a large swim-up bar. For younger guests and families, the Category 6 waterpark will be updated with two new raft slides, including the first funnel raft slide at sea.
Beyond the waterpark, the ship offers several high-altitude activities. Crown’s Edge provides a combination of a skywalk and zip line located 154 feet above the water. Other recreational facilities include the Adrenaline Peak rock-climbing wall, the FlowRider surf simulator, and the Lost Dunes mini-golf course.
Accommodation options on Hero of the Seas have been designed to cater to larger groups. The Ultimate Family Treehouse is a three-story suite that features a rooftop terrace, a private whirlpool, and a two-deck area specifically for teenagers. The ship also includes the Ultimate Family Townhouse, which provides direct access to the Surfside neighborhood, and several high-end suites such as the Royal Loft and Icon Loft – and yes, they can get quite pricey.

The vessel will maintain several signature Icon Class features, such as the Pearl kinetic art sculpture in the Royal Promenade and the open-air Central Park, which contains over 30,500 plants. Entertainment venues returning to the ship include the Royal Theater, the AquaTheater, and Absolute Zero, the largest ice arena currently found at sea.
Hero of the Seas will operate seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. These voyages include stops at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as destinations such as Roatan, Cozumel, Costa Maya, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas.
Royal Caribbean president and CEO Michael Bayley shared his perspective on how the new vessel expands the company’s current offerings for family-oriented travel:
Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further. With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together.
