Global Creatures has announced that their production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be returning to the Australian stage. The production is scheduled to open at the Sydney Lyric in March 2027. This new season will feature an entirely new Australian cast, distinct from the company that performed during the previous national tour. At the moment this has just been announced for Sydney, but wouldn’t surprise me if a national tour is also planned once again.
The decision to return follows the show’s earlier Australian run, which concluded in February 2024. According to supplied statistics, that tour played to approximately 1.4 million theatregoers across seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane. Since its Broadway debut in 2019, the production has seen various iterations globally.
With the confirmation of a new cast for the 2027 season, the production team has outlined the audition schedule. Auditions are set to commence in Sydney from 16 March 2026 to 21 March 2026. Following this, the team will move to Melbourne for sessions running from 23 March 2026 to 28 March 2026.
Ticket sales for the upcoming Sydney season are scheduled to begin shortly. A pre-sale for waitlist members will open at 10am AEDT on Monday 23 February 2026. Tickets will subsequently be made available to the general public through Ticketmaster starting at 9am AEDT on Thursday 26 February 2026.
