Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched the PlayStation Family app worldwide on iOS and Android, giving parents a central way to manage their children’s PlayStation gaming from a phone or tablet. The mobile app complements existing PS5 and PS4 parental controls, including playtime limits and age restrictions for games, while introducing new tools for day to day oversight.
Positioned as a single hub for family management, the app aims to provide guided onboarding for setting up child accounts, real time notifications about what a child is playing, and the ability to approve or decline requests for extra playtime or access to restricted titles directly from a mobile device. Parents can also review daily and weekly activity reports at a glance to understand current play habits.
Sony highlights that the app expands on familiar console features with more granular control. Playtime can be set for each day of the week, with children able to request additional time from the console and parents responding on mobile. Spending can be managed by adding funds, viewing balances, and setting a monthly limit for PlayStation Store purchases. Content filters include age based presets that can be customised per child, and privacy settings can be tuned to manage social interactions and how children connect and play online.
