Sloth Gloss Games has released a free demo for Steel Century Groove, its rhythm-based robot RPG, now playable via Steam. The title is also featured in the Wholesome Games Celebration event on Steam until 14 August 2025.
Set in a far future where colossal war machines have been repurposed into giant robot dancers, Steel Century Groove follows an aspiring mecha pilot on a cross-country journey to claim the championship trophy. Along the way, players will meet friends, rivals, and uncover the hidden history behind these steel performers.
Battles aim to combine rhythm gameplay with RPG progression. Players can upgrade their mechas, equip mods, and use special abilities such as dancing drones, critical hits, and counters. Input can be handled via mouse and keyboard or controller, with actions timed to a mix of electronic, rock, and other upbeat tracks.
A notable feature allows players to import their own music in MP3, WAV, or OGG formats for dance battles. By manually setting the BPM, you can battle to any song – whether it’s a chart hit, a retro classic, or an unconventional choice. Unexpectedly, this functionality is fully available in the demo.
Promoted features of Steel Century Groove include a range of varied locations, from your suburban hometown to a neon city, snowy amusement park, lunar resort, and the submerged ruins of San Francisco; extensive customisation and progression options that let you level up mechas, choose mods, and collect upgrades to enhance performance; and a DIY soundtrack feature that allows you to import and battle to your own music for a personalised experience.
