Trailblazers, get ready for the second chapter of the Amphoreus story, as HoYoverse has announced the launch date for the upcoming Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.5 update, titled “Before Their Deaths”, arriving on 13 August 2025. This major content drop promises not just new characters, but a deeper dive into the game’s intricate narrative, including fresh confrontations and reunions with familiar faces in surprising new forms.
The next phase of the Amphorean adventure will continue directly from the events that closed out the previous update. Players last saw their Trailblazer accepting the mantle of the Deliverer, pledging loyalty to Phainon, who retaliated fiercely against Nanook. Yet, despite this victory, the journey ahead remains daunting. Players will accompany Cyrene in a new Trailblaze Mission, plunging into the depths of Eternal Recurrence to explore Okhema as it stood a thousand years prior. This journey takes place during the reign of Imperator Cerydra, holder of the powerful Law Coreflame, a crucial figure who predates Aglaea’s rule.
The headline feature, as usual, will be the implementation of two new characters, both 5-stars: Hysilens and Cerydra. Hysilens, the commanding officer of the holy city’s knights, follows the Path of Nihility as a Physical-type fighter. Her skills heavily emphasize damage-over-time (DoT) effects. By deploying her Ultimate, Hysilens generates a special “Zone,” amplifying each instance of DoT damage and weakening enemy attack and defense. Her abilities carry random chances to inflict additional DoT statuses, making her a tactical asset for battles reliant on attrition.
Imperator Cerydra, meanwhile, wields the winds of strategy as a Harmony-type character. Known for initiating the first Flame-Chase Journey, Cerydra’s combat prowess comes from her strategic expertise, inspired by her mastery of chess. She offers crucial support through the “Military Merit” buff, which progressively enhances an ally’s attack, critical damage, and resistance penetration. Additionally, her Ultimate attack targets all enemies, further solidifying her role as a potent, supportive strategist. Returning characters also make an appearance, with Stellaron Hunters Kafka and Silver Wolf featuring in the warp events scheduled for both halves of Version 3.5.
In addition to narrative and character expansions, Version 3.5 introduces the city of Styxia, described intriguingly as the “City of Infinite Revelry”. Here, Trailblazers will face Lygus, a mysterious enemy who shifts unpredictably between forms. This confrontation promises not only high-stakes battles but also a deeper revelation of his true nature and intentions.
Outside of combat, players can look forward to engaging events such as “Chrysos Maze Grand Restaurant,” where Trailblazers step into the role of restaurant managers, catering to the whimsical tastes of the fairies residing within the Membrance Maze. Another notable event is “Old Brews & New Friends,” returning players to the Dreamjolt Hostelry as guest drinksmiths, crafting beverages and reconnecting with cherished characters.
