Performer and playwright Danielle Aquilina will present her one-woman show Fat Girl at 1/44 Leonard Street, Woolloongabba, from 1–3 August. Fresh from receiving the Risky Award at the 2025 Darwin Fringe Festival, the production aims to entertain audiences with a blend of slam poetry, physical theatre and spoken word to examine the complicated relationship between body image, shame and self-acceptance.
Aquilina, known for her work as a 2024 Ruckus Slam Poetry finalist, confronts societal pressures head-on, drawing on personal experiences to explore what it means to live in a body the world insists must shrink. The 40-minute performance promises a mix of humour, vulnerability and improvisational energy, reflecting the artist’s background in comedy and live theatre.
Sessions run at 7.30 pm on Friday and Saturday, with two Sunday performances at 12 pm and 6.30 pm. Tickets are available through the Anywhere Festivals website. Audience members should however note, perhaps unsurprisingly, the production’s 18+ rating and content warnings for nudity, strong language and adult themes.
