Producers of the MJ: The Michael Jackson Musical Australian tour, Michael Cassel, Lia Vollack, John Branca and John McClain – have confirmed that the production will embark on its first International Asian Tour from October 2026, visiting major cities over an initial two-year schedule. The production has already drawn more than five million viewers across Broadway, London’s West End, Hamburg, Sydney and a North American tour, with Melbourne next in line this September. An entirely new cast will be assembled for the Asian run, with tour stops and casting details to be announced in the coming months.
Set in 1992, MJ follows the creative process behind the Dangerous World Tour through the perspective of an MTV journalist granted rare rehearsal-room access. Written by two-time Pulitzer winner Lynn Nottage and directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, the musical features more than 25 songs including Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Man in the Mirror and Thriller.
The Asian tour will carry over the production’s full creative team, including scenic designer Derek McLane, lighting designer Natasha Katz, costume designer Paul Tazewell, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Peter Nigrini, hair and wig designer Charles LaPointe and make-up designer Joe Dulude II. David Holcenberg serves as musical supervisor with orchestrations and arrangements by Holcenberg and Jason Michael Webb.
Commenting on these plans, Michael Cassel, Producer and CEO of the Michael Cassel Group, shared:
MJ has proven to be a global phenomenon. Audiences from New York to Sydney have been blown away by the artistry, energy, and humanity of this show. We now have the great privilege of bringing this production, as originally conceived by Christopher Wheeldon and his incredible creative team, to audiences throughout Asia.
Producer Lia Vollack added:
We can’t wait to share this theatrical experience with even more fans as we take MJ on the road throughout Asia, and we are thrilled that this tour will allow us bring the music and legacy of Michael Jackson to audiences in their home regions.
