Capcom brought a trio of high-profile announcements to this morning’s Summer Game Fest 2025 showcase, offering new insights into upcoming titles across three of its flagship franchises. These included a new trailer and release date for Resident Evil Requiem, fresh gameplay details for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and confirmation of the full Year 3 character lineup for Street Fighter 6.
Announcement #1: A Return to Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem
Set for release on 27 February 2026, Resident Evil Requiem is the next major chapter in the long-running survival horror series. Revealed with a cinematic trailer, the game is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Powered by the RE ENGINE, Capcom is promising a visually intense experience with detailed character models, expressive facial animations, and environmental effects such as sweat and skin textures that heighten the atmosphere.
The story brings players back to Raccoon City, where the origins of the franchise’s biological disaster took hold. Blending psychological horror with action-heavy gameplay, Capcom positions this as the most immersive entry yet in the mainline series.
The game will support a wide range of voice and subtitle options, with audio available in English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Castilian Spanish, Russian, and Mandarin. Subtitles will also be provided in Korean, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Arabic, and Polish.
Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will have a playable demo at Gamescom 2025 and that further details will be unveiled in the months ahead.
Announcement #2: New Trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword Highlights Mythical Battles
Capcom also premiered a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, showcasing fresh gameplay mechanics and narrative elements from the upcoming dark fantasy action title. The footage offers a look at protagonist Miyamoto Musashi as he clashes with demonic forces and a historic rival – Sasaki Ganryu – at the famed Kiyomizu-dera temple.
Players can expect a mix of traditional swordplay and supernatural combat, including battles against grotesque Genma creatures like Kubi Akari and Daidara. One of the new locations features a dreamlike battlefield with floating rock formations and pathways that materialise mid-combat, hinting at a more surreal direction for exploration.
Combat is built around dynamic techniques such as the timing-based “Issen” critical strikes, as well as new weapons like a pair of hammer-like armaments capable of shattering the air itself. The trailer concluded with the brief appearance of a mysterious woman emerging from Musashi’s Oni Gauntlet, teasing further story developments.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is expected to release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Announcement #3: Four Returning Fighters Join Street Fighter 6 in Year 3
Rounding out the showcase, Capcom confirmed the four characters joining the Street Fighter 6 roster as part of its Year 3 content roadmap. Each will be released sequentially, beginning in mid-2025 and concluding into early 2026. Question is… will a Year 4 content roadmap also be delivered afterwards?:
- Sagat (Summer 2025): The towering Muay Thai fighter returns with his classic moveset and imposing presence.
- C. Viper (Autumn 2025): Equipped with her hi-tech Battle Suit, C. Viper returns from Street Fighter IV to take on new challenges.
- Alex (Winter 2025): The wrestling powerhouse from Street Fighter V brings his grappling skills to the new game.
- Ingrid (Spring 2026): A mysterious and powerful character, Ingrid returns with her magical abilities and radiant presence.
In addition, Capcom announced that Capcom Cup 12 will take place in 2026 at the historic Ryogoku Kokugikan sumo arena in Tokyo, Japan, with a $1 million prize for the champion. Competitive players can qualify throughout the Capcom Pro Tour 2025 season.
Street Fighter 6 is also now available on the Nintendo Switch 2, launching with new game modes exclusive to the platform. For new players, a Street Fighter 6 Years 1–2 Fighters Edition is available, bundling all 26 characters from the first two years of content, additional outfit colours, and 20 stages.
