After starting out the weekend period with downtime which lasted the greater part of the day, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced compensation for at least those with active PlayStation Plus accounts.
In an announcement via the official @AskPlayStation social media accounts, it was vaguely confirmed that this was an “operational issue” and that all subscribers of the PlayStation Plus subscription service will be credited five extra days of membership:
No further clarification has been provided at this stage. But this does perhaps raise the importance of communication, especially within such passionate fanbases, and the need to keep audiences assured rather than letting the rumour mill take hold of the narrative, especially with increased talks of the 2011 PlayStation Network Outage which lasted 23 days among a whole other spattering of issues including compromised accounts.
