Despite being launched for the PC in 2010 – Final Fantasy XIV was released to a rather average reception and overall did not live up to the potential that it could have had… especially given how long and successful the other Square Enix online game “Final Fantasy XI” was proving – with even an expansion pack release this year. Rather than leave the game to its otherwise lackluster fate the company decided to work towards Final Fantasy XIV “Version 2.0”, which will hopefully bring the game up to a standard it deserves – with many new game improvements and the long-awaited release on the Playstation 3 console.
This version seems to be big enough to have warranted the servers to be taken offline late last year with a series of beta tests to follow in the new year. It has recently been confirmed that the beta tests will begin on the 25th February 2013 with beta applications still being accepted.
