One of the big announcements of the Xbox Games Showcase was that Bethesda Softworks and the development team at id Software are at work on a new instalment in the iconic DOOM franchise, titled DOOM: Dark Ages. This will be a new single-player, action first-person shooter instalment in the series, serving as a prequel to both DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. Set in a medieval war against Hell, players will embody the DOOM Slayer, a formidable warrior revered as the ultimate super weapon of gods and kings.
Players can expect to use classic weapons like the Super Shotgun while also trying out new armaments such as the versatile Shield Saw. The game promises intense, grounded combat reminiscent of the original DOOM, with players battling across demon-infested battlefields. Additionally, players can ride the fierce Mecha Dragon and engage in combat using the massive Atlan mech to defeat titanic demons.
DOOM: The Dark Ages, which explores the cinematic origin story of the Slayer’s rage, is set to release on Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 in 2025.
