Originally released on the PlayStation 2 and later on the Nintendo Wii, Dokapon Kingdom is what you get when you take the fun, friendly party board game mechanics of Mario Party and add a lot of chaos to it. Now in 2023, Idea Factory International has confirmed they will be unleashing the game on a new generation of audiences, confirming that Dokapon Kingdom: Connect will be releasing digitally and physically on the Nintendo Switch later this year.
Dokapon Kingdom is a many-hours long board game taking place in Dokapon Kingdom, a kingdom who loves money. One day in this peaceful land, monsters suddenly appeared and began attacking nearby towns. The economy collapsed, and people were at their lowest. Taxes were no longer being paid, of course.
So that’s when the King took action! He decided to gather the bravest warriors to rescue these towns so he can get paid! In exchange, the one who collects the most shall be rewarded with the Princess’ hand in marriage and the throne. And thus, an adventure for money begins, where absolutely anything goes!
The main new addition in Dokapon Kingdom: Connect appears to be the introduction of online multiplayer support, allowing you to group with frenemies, friends or others for an extended romp in the game. I would also expect this to be quite the popular game among streamers, given this is the first time Dokapon Kingdom has been readily available in the ‘Era of Streaming‘.
