Citing the “ongoing uncertainty surrounding events and social distancing” caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Australian anime publisher Madman Entertainment has confirmed they will be cancelling their Anime Festival 2021 event in Sydney. This unfortunately follows the postponement of their 2020 program.
Given it is uncertain when international travel will be permissible once more, the number of patrons required to at least break even and staff resources to put together the event – this is entirely understandable. At this point, none of the other 2021 legs of the Anime Festival have been cancelled.
Anime Festival Sydney 2022 will be going ahead, and has been dated for 12-13 March 2022. You can read the full statement below:

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – ANIME FESTIVAL 2021 – SYDNEY
With consideration to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding events and social distancing, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel Anime Festival 2021 – Sydney.
We feel that planning and delivering an event to the standard anime fans expect just isn’t possible under these circumstances, and although this will come as a disappointment, the news isn’t all doom and gloom!
While 2021 is off the cards, Anime Festival WILL RETURN to Sydney – we’ll be seeing you March 12-13, 2022!!!
