Further Performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Australia Cancelled

Ticket holders for performances in July and Early-August 2020 to be Rescheduled

Last month, the Australian producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre confirmed that performances up to and including Sunday 28 June 2020 would be postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In an announcement made earlier today, it has been confirmed that performances from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Sunday 9 August 2020 are being postponed and rescheduled until a later date.

Fortunately, due to the indefinite nature of its season, those who had tickets to the highly-commended show won’t just miss out on seeing it. This is unlike some other major theatrical productions across the country which have been outright cancelled.

As a short term fix, those who held tickets for performances during this period will be automatically moved seat-by-seat to an alternative date from Wednesday 6 January 2020. This might raise a few eyebrows, but at the very least it ensures no deviation from the seat you initially booked. Interstate visitors, international visitors, and those who cannot make the revised time will have other “provisions” made available to them.

A full updated statement, provided by the producers via social media, can be found below:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series, which has been created by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. It takes place after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with a particular focus on Albus Severus Potter, the son of Harry Potter and Ginny Potter (nee Weasley).
