During the PlayStation Press Conference at E3 2016 earlier today, Capcom unveiled that work is ongoing for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the next major entry in the long-running Resident Evil horror franchise.
The developer hopes that Resident Evil 7 will set a new course for the series, as “it leverages its roots and opens the door to a truly terrifying horror experience”. One of the primary changes to this instalment is the shift to a first-person viewpoint in a photorealistic style which is powered by Capcom’s new RE engine. The hope is that the game will deliver “an unprecedented level of immersion that brings the thrilling horror up close and personal”.

Resident Evil 7 takes place in a modern day rural America, and chronologically takes place after the events of Resident Evil 6. While the actual plot has not yet been greatly detailed by the company, they have announced the Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour demo which offers a taste of what to come. This demo portrays events leading up to the main game, and ties into the PlayStation VR “Kitchen” tech demo first showcased at E3 2015. In the teaser demo, player awakens inside a dilapidated cottage on an ominous plantation mansion. The question is… can you make it out alive? This teaser demo is now available to download for PlayStation Plus members, and will be available on other platforms at a later date.
Resident Evil 7 biohazard is currently in development on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC – and is slated to launch in North America and Europe starting January 24 2017. The game will also feature support for the PlayStation VR, where the full gameplay experience can be enjoyed (or cause distress) via the virtual reality headset. This might be a great option for those who find they don’t scare easily, and could use a bit of extra immersion.
