While their popularity would be nowhere close to that of the “AAA” video games we see prominently displayed in physical and digital stores, over the last few years, Japanese visual novels have slowly but surely risen in prominence within the western gaming market. The latest comes from NekoNyan and PQube, who have today released Sprite’s 2014 visual novel Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue (蒼の彼方のフォーリズム) onto the Nintendo Switch.
The story of Aokana plays in a world where science managed to invent anti-gravity shoes. With the dreamlike ability to freely fly through the skies, a form of sport called Flying Circus became popular, where athletes soar through the air to score points. Readers will take on the role of Masaya, a former competitor, that encounters the new transfer student Asuka who strives to learn how to fly. They find themselves involved in the Flying Circus sports club, supporting the ambitious girls and eventually ending up with their own head in clouds.
While you can pick up Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue digitally or physically, you also have the option of picking up a Limited Edition collection. This set includes a 100-page artbook, featuring the game’s CG artwork.
Don’t own a Nintendo Switch? Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue is due to release on the PlayStation 4 later this year.
