Just a quick reminder that JAST USA will be launching their very first visual novel or the year tomorrow, their highly anticipated release of Steins;Gate for the PC. Steins;Gate was the 2009 / 2010 science fiction collaboration between 5pb and Nitroplus and has since spawned several spin-off games and manga in addition to an anime series + film.
A standard edition release consisting of either a digital download or shrink-wrapped DVD is available for $39.95 while a special limited edition consisting of several other physical goodies is still available in limited quantities at $59.95. Check back to The Otaku’s Study in a couple of weeks time for an in-depth review of Steins;Gate.
Okabe Rintaro — aka Okarin — is an eccentric college student who dreams of conspiracy and chaos. Adopting the persona of a mad scientist, he spends his time developing oddball gadgets with his friends in their makeshift laboratory.
One day, they accidentally discover that one of their inventions can send emails into the past. In other words, they have created a time machine.
SERN, John Titor, the IBN 5100, the Butterfly Effect, and the 11 theories of time travel — when chance brings these elements together in Akihabara, Japan, the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
What will Okarin choose when he holds the future in his hands?
Edit: Do note that only the digital download release is available at this time, with the physical editions set for release on the 30th April 2014.
$40, huh? That’s more expensive than I would’ve figured. But I have to admit, I’m intrigued by that trailer and this properties’ reputation & following. Gonna have to check this out at some point…
