Torchlight: Infinite Season SS14 Tartarus Puts Players In Charge Of A Prison

Torchlight: Infinite players are being handed the keys to a prison in the game’s latest season. XD Games has launched SS14 Tartarus worldwide on PC and mobile, adding a new prison management mode, a new Hero Trait and a follower system.

The new Tartarus mode is set in the Netherrealm and plays out in three phases. It begins with a hunt, as players track down and defeat escaped prisoners to collect their nameplates. From there, they take control of a circular prison with 16 cells, housing inmates and setting up fights between prisoners or against beasts, including elephants, lions, wolves and rats, to improve their skills.

After 20 turns of building, the mode moves into its final phase, where the inmates players have gathered become the enemies and bosses they must defeat. This combat challenge stretches across three prison levels and six difficulty levels, with rewards based on the quality and number of enemies defeated.

The season also brings a new Hero Trait, Spacetime Witness Youga, built around keeping up a constant cycle of spellcasting. Youga’s Clockwork Core can cast Entanglement skills automatically, and his critical strikes can reduce his ability cooldowns.

The Hero Trait has three development paths. Spacetime Dictator focuses on projectiles and manipulating time, Spacetime Conqueror centres on movement and linked damage through Time-Rift Traversal, and Spacetime Dominator builds up spell enhancements using Spacetime Overload. Players can commit fully to one path or combine elements of all three to create their own build.

SS14 also introduces followers, a new progression system that lets players recruit allies from the wolf, rat, lion and elephant tribes using a new resource called Letters of Introduction. Followers add another layer of build customisation, offering Active and Support Skills such as buffs, protection and debuffs. Reaching higher Netherrealm difficulty tiers unlocks access to higher-tier followers.
