One of the earliest entries in the Tales series has returned. Bandai Namco Entertainment has released Tales of Eternia Remastered, an updated version of the 2001 action RPG, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
The original game was released in North America under the name Tales of Destiny II. The remaster gives players the choice of how they want to experience it, with a new Graphics Mode and SFX Mode that allow switching freely between the remastered and original visuals and sound effects.
A number of quality-of-life changes have been added. A Boost feature lets players adjust both the experience they earn and how often they encounter enemies, destination icons can be switched on or off, and a high-speed option is available when using Auto mode in battle. Battle Retry and Quick Recovery have also been included. There are new options for those wanting more of a challenge too. Extreme difficulty is available from the very beginning, and a brand-new difficulty called Unknown unlocks after finishing the game.
The story follows Reid Hershel and his friends Farah and Keele, along with the mysterious Meredy. They live in Eternia, where two worlds, Inferia and Celestia, face each other across the sky. The group sets out to prevent the Grand Fall, a disaster that threatens to destroy both worlds as they collide. Stopping it means seeking out the power of the Greater Craymels and drawing on elemental spirits, while the heroes are also forced to confront themselves along the way.
