Arcade snowboarding is heading somewhere much hotter. Publisher Acclaim Inc. debuted a new gameplay trailer for HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate during The MIX: Fall Online Showcase, showing off new areas, new playable riders and more of the game’s over-the-top tricks ahead of its launch on Steam and consoles next year.
Developed by Mexican indie studio Wabisabi Games, the team behind RKGK / Rakugaki, HYPERyuki is a modern arcade snowboarding game inspired by Y2K-era extreme sports titles such as SSX and Jet Grind Radio. The new trailer moves beyond snowy slopes and into areas that are probably not usually safe for snowboarding. Players can grind across an active volcano, race through glittering ice caves and even take on courses as a giant snowboarding kaiju.
Marc Anthony Rodriguez, Director of Publishing and Strategic Partnerships at Acclaim, Inc., spoke about the era that inspired the game and teased a new demo:
The extreme sports games in the golden age of the late 90’s & early aughts had something special. The speed, the banger music, the outrageous tricks, all pure fun. HYPERyuki captures that spirit immediately. Wabisabi is building something with its own identity, and every new reveal gets more ridiculous in the best possible way. Acclaim is proud to be part of this journey & can’t wait for players to experience it with a new demo soon.
The game features several modes. In Challenge, players complete objectives such as riding rails, collecting trinkets and landing tricks to chase high scores on the leaderboard. Race pits players against NPCs or other riders, with tricks filling a boost meter so that style and speed need to be balanced. Chill is an endless mode for taking in the scenery at a slower pace, with secrets to discover along the way. Multiplayer is supported both online, with up to seven friends, and locally through split screen. And for anyone who has ever wanted to ride as a sentient snowboarding taco, that option is available too.
HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate is set to launch on Steam and consoles in 2027
