Final Fantasy VII Revelation Locks In 2027 Release With New Gamescom Trailer

SQUARE ENIX has set a release date for the final chapter of its Remake trilogy. FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION was shown during gamescom Opening Night Live with a new gameplay trailer, and it has also been confirmed that the game will be available in Autumn 2027 for players in Australia and New Zealand on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, XBOX Series X|S and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and XBOX on PC.

The footage focuses on the Weapons. The massive guardians rise up to defend a planet that is in crisis, even though they do not distinguish between friend and enemy and cause extensive destruction as a result. The trailer shows the creatures being encountered in desert areas, during air battles and on the ocean floor, with Cloud and his companions having to deal with the beings while at the same time chasing Sephiroth. Although the Weapons were a late-game feature when the 1997 version was released, they are now featured as the main highlights of the fight sequences, with some of them being presented as extremely difficult endgame challenges that refer back to their original forms.

The summon named Typhon was also featured, together with an explanation of the way the game deals with moving around the open world using parachutes, grappling hooks and Chocobo mounts. The trailer also presented the FITS system, a new mechanic which allows outfits to have their own abilities and greater power, including specialised roles intended to reflect the traditional FINAL FANTASY job system. Cloud and Tifa are shown in the Warrior and Black Mage FITS respectively.

The story begins with the party mourning the loss of a fellow companion as Sephiroth moves ever nearer to achieving godhood. Once they have boarded the airship Highwind, Cloud and the rest of the group set off with the aim of preventing Meteor from using the ultimate destructive magic to destroy the planet completely. According to SQUARE ENIX, the game represents the climax of 30 years of FINAL FANTASY VII storytelling.

Highwind also forms the fundamental basis of the game’s structure since the whole planet can be explored at will from the air, players being able to use a parachute and drop in at any location in order to make a smooth transition to ground level. As Meteor is descending and the Weapons are raging, conflicts are spread all over the world, forcing the players to choose where to go, whom to help and in what order. The decisions taken at various points will have an impact on the individual character stories.

Combat continues to use the hybrid system introduced in the two preceding entries, allowing players to switch between real-time action and Tactical Mode. According to SQUARE ENIX the system has been expanded in this edition with new playable characters and extra abilities.

Anyone wanting to prepare beforehand can work through FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE and FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, both currently available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, XBOX Series X|S and PC. There’s also a practical incentive to play them. Save data carried over from either title unlocks bonuses in REVELATION, with REMAKE INTERGRADE providing the Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia and REBIRTH supplying the Phoenix Summon Materia.
