New SAO Game Announced by Bandai Namco Entertainment: Echoes of Aincrad

Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed Echoes of Aincrad, the next of many action role-playing game set within the Sword Art Online universe. The title is scheduled to launch on 10 July 2026 and will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

The game takes place in the floating castle of Aincrad, featuring a variety of environments ranging from cities and open plains to perilous dungeons. Players will take on the role of a customisable avatar, acting as the central protagonist of the narrative. As players progress through various quests and missions, they will have the opportunity to upgrade their weapons, equipment, and attributes, alongside selecting special skills to suit their preferred playstyle as they level up.

Combat in Echoes of Aincrad takes place in real time, requiring players to master mechanics such as parrying, dodging, and executing timed attacks against monsters and bosses. Additionally, players will not be fighting alone. The game features a partner system where players can select a companion for their excursions. During combat, players can dictate their partner’s stance, choosing between aggressive or supportive behaviours. Deepening the bond with these companions will eventually unlock new abilities for them to use in battle.

The release will be split into three distinct versions. The Standard Edition includes the base game. The Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with an Expansion Pack featuring downloadable content and Day 1 Starter Pack consumables, as well as early access to the Death Game Mode. Finally, the Ultimate Edition contains all the content from the Deluxe tier, an exclusive Armor Pack, and the “Unanswered//butterfly” Bonus Contents App, which includes a special anime, digital artbook, and digital soundtrack.
