France-based independent developer Souris-Lab has released a new playable demo for its upcoming puzzle-platformer, Néro & Sci ∫ Integral Edition. The title is currently available for players to download and test via Steam.
Set within the vibrant world of Héméide, the game task players with navigating environments constructed from geometric shapes, numbers, and mathematical symbols. The gameplay aims to provide players with an experience which has an emphasis on using logic and reasoning to solve increasingly complex puzzles, with the narrative goal of opening the minds of the Synapsian people. The developer has designed the experience to reward creative thinking and experimentation through its combination of platforming and mathematical theory.
The newly released demo features three complete levels as they are intended to appear in the final version of the game. It includes a revisited user interface designed for smoother combat and navigation, as well as improved visual assets. Additionally, the demo supports local co-op play and has been confirmed for Steam Deck compatibility. Upon its full release, Néro & Sci ∫ Integral Edition is expected to provide over 20 hours of gameplay across 36 levels and four distinct worlds.
Caroline Martinand, the CEO and art director of Souris-Lab, shared the creative inspiration behind the game’s unique visual and thematic focus on mathematics:
When I created this game, I wanted players to see mathematics the way I used to see them in the books my parents gave me: their colors, their mysteries. I’m not particularly good at math or logic, but these subjects drew me in, so I had to incorporate my artistic vision into them. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
