Guerrilla Games has officially confirmed further expansion plans for the Horizon universe with the announcement of a new title, Horizon Hunters Gathering. Currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC, the game will support both cross-play and cross-progression between the two platforms.
Moving away from the single-player focus of the mainline series, Horizon Hunters Gathering is a cooperative action game designed for squads of three. Players take on the role of elite Hunters tasked with protecting the world from machine threats. The combat experience is pitched as tactical and reactive, requiring players to utilise specific skills and teamwork.
The gameplay loop allows players to select from a roster of Hunters, each equipped with distinct melee or ranged weaponry. These characters can be further customised through a rogue-lite perk system, allowing teams to synergise their roles.
Two specific game modes have been revealed for the title so far:
- Machine Incursion: A high-intensity mission structure where waves of machines emerge from underground gateways, ending with a boss encounter.
- Cauldron Descent: A multi-stage trial involving changing rooms. This mode tasks players with navigating brutal encounters and finding hidden doors that offer rewards.
Regarding the narrative, Guerrilla has stated that the game is fully canon within the Horizon timeline. It will feature a campaign that introduces new characters and mysteries, with the story set to continue expanding after the game’s initial launch.
Between hunts, players will return to a social hub simply called “Hunters Gathering”. In this space, teams can connect, visit vendors, upgrade their gear, and customise their Hunters before setting out for the next mission.
While a release date has not been confirmed, the studio has announced that a small-scale closed playtest is scheduled for the end of February 2026. Players on both PC and PS5 can register their interest in this and future tests via the PlayStation Beta Program website.
