HoYoverse has released details regarding the first Genshin Impact update of 2026. Titled Version Luna IV: “A Traveler on a Winter’s Night”, the patch is scheduled to go live on 14 January 2026. This update is set to conclude the current narrative arc in the Nod-Krai region, while introducing new playable characters, a map expansion, and the return of the annual Lantern Rite festival.
The narrative focus of Version Luna IV centers on the climax of the Nod-Krai Archon Quest. The story will involve a confrontation with Il Dottore, who has utilized the power of the “Moon Marrows” to progress his research. The questline takes place within a new domain controlled by the antagonist. Upon completion of this quest, players will unlock a new outfit for the Traveler which is tied to their developing understanding of elemental power.
In terms of playable content, the update introduces two new 5-star characters and one new 4-star character. Columbina Hyposelenia, also known as the Moon Maiden, is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst user. Her kit is designed around support and “Lunar Reactions.” Her abilities allow her to deal off-field damage and enhance reactions through her “Lunar Domain.” Uniquely, akin to other previous ‘archon’ characters having a special quirk, Columbina possesses a mechanic specific to the Nod-Krai region that allows her to revive a fallen teammate.
Joining her is Zibai, a 5-star Geo Sword wielder introduced as a Liyue Adeptus. Zibai’s gameplay focuses on the new elemental reaction introduced in this update: Lunar-Crystallize. This reaction occurs when Geo meets Hydro under specific conditions, creating “Moondrifts” that deal Geo damage and provide buffs. Zibai’s skills increase in frequency and damage output as these reactions are triggered.
The update’s Event Wishes will be split into two phases:
- Phase 1: Features the debut of Columbina alongside a rerun of Ineffa.
- Phase 2: Features the debut of Zibai and a new 4-star Geo Polearm user named Illuga, alongside a rerun of Neuvillette.
The game map will expand northward in the Nod-Krai region, revealing an area known as Piramida. This location serves as the headquarters for the Lightkeepers and overlooks the western Pillar of Embla. A new World Quest will be available in this area, continuing the conflict against the Wild Hunt faction.
Outside of the main story, the Lantern Rite festival returns to Liyue. This year’s event narrative focuses on Zibai and the celestial sign of Zhanzhu the Moon-Devourer. Activities will include placing Xiao Lanterns, collecting Fortune Coins, and participating in various mini-games. Rewards on offer as part of the event cycle include:
- 1,600 Primogems via in-game mail.
- 10 Intertwined Fates via a login event.
- A selection box to invite one free 4-star Liyue character.
- A new outfit for the character Yaoyao, claimable through event participation.
- A horse mascot cosmetic set.
Additionally, a new outfit for Neuvillette will be added to the in-game shop at a discounted rate for a limited time. The update also updates the Miliastra Wonderland with a new “Classic Mode” and additional paid content options.
Genshin Impact Version Luna IV will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Android, and iOS platforms from 14 January 2026.
