Hotta Studio has announced that player registrations are now open for the next testing phase of their open-world title, NTE. Dubbed the ‘Co-Ex Test’, interested users can currently sign up via the game’s official website for a chance to return to (or take their first steps into) the fictional setting of Hethereau.
NTE is a supernatural urban RPG developed using Unreal Engine 5. The game presents a seamless world where humanity lives alongside surreal “Anomalies”. The core gameplay loop involves controlling various characters to investigate these supernatural occurrences through episodic storylines that seek to balance comedy and drama.
Hotta Studio has outlined several new features that will be available during the Co-Ex Test. On the combat and exploration front, two large-scale “Anomaly Dungeons” have been added. Titled “The Bank” and “Hospital”, these areas are designed as team-based multiplayer experiences where players must coordinate to navigate complex environments and defeat powerful enemies.
Significant updates are also planned to the urban simulation mechanics. Players will be able to participate in a variety of city activities, ranging from fishing and racing to playing Mahjong. The test also introduces the ability to take taxi rides or take on employment at coffee shops to earn in-game rewards.
A “Prison Gameplay” system has also been detailed for this testing phase. Players who violate in-game laws may face a mechanic simulating prison life. This feature includes activities such as solitary confinement and outdoor time, as well as the option to attempt an escape mission.
Additionally, the test will include new cosmetic options. New urban outfits will be available for the protagonist and main characters, featuring a minimalist design style intended to match the city’s modern atmosphere.
NTE is currently in development for PC, console, and mobile platforms.
