Square Enix has officially released Octopath Traveler 0 across multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. This title serves as the latest standalone entry in the company’s HD-2D RPG franchise.
Set in the realm of Orsterra, the narrative follows a story of restoration involving divine rings. While the game retains established series mechanics such as the distinctive art style, Path Actions for character interaction, and the Break and Boost battle system, it introduces significant changes to the gameplay loop. For the first time in the series history, players are able to create and customize their own protagonist from name and appearance, to a few other traits. This central character is tasked with the new objective of rebuilding their destroyed hometown of Wishvale.
The storyline expands upon the narrative foundation of the mobile title Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. The console release features new story content and reinterpreted narrative beats from the mobile game.
A demo is currently available on all supported platforms. This trial version allows players to design their custom protagonist and experience up to three hours of gameplay. Content available in the demo includes the Prologue and the first chapters of the Master of Wealth, Master of Power, and Master of Fame story arcs. Players can also access the first chapter of the Kindlers of the Flame arc to test the new town building mechanics. Save data from this demo can be transferred to the full game upon purchase.
Square Enix has also implemented a Save Data Bonus Campaign. Players who possess save data or play history for specific titles – including previous Octopath Traveler entries, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, or Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake – are eligible to redeem bonus items within Octopath Traveler 0.
