Following the game’s initial release on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch earlier this year, Idea Factory International has confirmed that their dungeon-crawling RPG MADO MONOGATARI: Fia and the Wondrous Academy will be expanding its platform availability to the PC. This digital-exclusive release is set to go on-sale via Steam in Spring 2026 (Autumn 2026 for those of us in the southern hemisphere).
MADO MONOGATARI: Fia and the Wondrous Academy takes place at The Ancient Magic Academy, an institution famous for being the alma mater of ‘The Great Mage’. Players assume the role of Fia, a prospective student who has traveled a great distance to enroll. The storyline follows her daily life as she navigates strict professors, academic challenges, and mysterious events while attempting to forge friendships and emulate the success of The Great Mage.
Gameplay in MADO MONOGATARI is split between dungeon exploration and campus activities. The exploration component involves navigating randomly generated dungeons and engaging in battles that blend real-time and turn-based mechanics. Players utilize ‘Magic Artes’ and collect Elemental Orbs to unleash powerful attacks. The game features various enemies, including familiar creatures such as Puyo and Skeleton T.
Outside of combat, the game utilizes a progression system centred around a Grimoire. As players complete assignments and quests, they earn Learning Points to unlock new nodes and abilities within this book. The Academy grounds serve as a hub where Fia can interact with classmates, play mini-games found on the Bulletin Board, and engage in crafting. This includes a synthesis system in the Storage Room for creating equipment and a cooking mechanic where players can make curry to provide status boosts for dungeon excursions.
