Continuing their rollout of initiatives under the Copilot branding, Microsoft’s Xbox team has commenced rolling out Gaming Copilot, an AI powered assistant designed to offer recommendations, help and insights while you play. The beta is available now within the Windows PC Game Bar for players aged 18 and older, with regional support everywhere except mainland China, and will arrive in October for the Xbox app on iOS and Android as a second screen companion.
In an announcement made by Xbox’s principal program manager, Taylor O’Malley, the team has been iterating on features through previews with mobile users and Xbox Insiders, focusing on making Copilot useful when needed and unobtrusive when not. Early usage has centered on improving gameplay by answering questions about quests, strategies and builds, and Xbox plans to expand Copilot with deeper insights and coaching aligned with community feedback.
Voice Mode is the recommended way to get started. On PC, players can set a Push to Talk hotkey for quick questions mid game, or pin the Gaming Copilot widget in Mini Mode to keep a long running voice chat active while taking up minimal screen space. On mobile, users can open the Gaming Copilot tab in the Xbox app, tap the microphone, and speak naturally to begin a conversation.
Gaming Copilot seeks to understand what is happening on your screen in real time and knows which game you are playing. Players can ask about a newly encountered enemy, request tips, or get a quick summary of an NPC they are speaking to. It can also handle library tasks, suggesting games based on favorite genres or play history, and advising on the next achievements to target by referencing what has already been unlocked.
To use Gaming Copilot on PC, install the Xbox PC app, press the Windows key plus G to open Game Bar, then select the Gaming Copilot icon, open the widget, and sign in with your Xbox account. On mobile, update to the latest Xbox app and navigate to the Copilot section for real time support while you play. Xbox states it will continue to experiment with new capabilities and is optimizing the experience for handheld devices such as the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X from 16 October, with Xbox console support planned in the near future.
