Aggelos 2 Announced for 2026, Bringing Dual-Realm Action and 16-Bit Flair to Modern Platforms

-

PQube, alongside co-publisher PixelHeart and developer Wonderboy Bobi, has officially unveiled Aggelos 2, the follow-up to the retro-inspired action-platformer. Launching digitally in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, the sequel will also be available in physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Aggelos 2 sets out to not just replicate but evolve the franchise’s classic formula, trading the original’s 8-bit visuals for 16-bit pixel art while introducing a new dual-realm mechanic that allows players to swap between the worlds of Light and Darkness in real time. This system forms the backbone of both exploration and combat, in hopes of offering players a layered Metroidvania experience where strategy, timing, and adaptability are key.

In this new chapter, players step into the shoes of an Aggelos, the highest rank among the angels, sent by the supreme god of light, Balro, to save the domain of Lumen from the encroaching Army of Darkness. The journey takes players through overlapping maps of Light and Dark, each with unique enemies, puzzles, and challenges that react to the hero’s form.

Switching between Angel and Demon modes provides distinct advantages: Angel form is slower and more precise, absorbing light projectiles and unlocking defensive options, while Demon form grants speed and power for aggressive attacks and barrier-breaking maneuvers. Mastery of these forms is essential when facing off against the game’s hordes of enemies and 13 bosses. Progression is rewarded with new abilities such as dashing, wall-jumping, flight, and powerful special attacks, all of which can be upgraded by collecting Orbs. Magical potions and other upgrades further boost survivability and expand exploration opportunities.

PQube’s CEO, Dave Pain, commented on the project, sharing:

We’ve always had a real soft spot for Aggelos and the response from fans over the years has shown us we’re not alone. It’s been brilliant to work with PixelHeart again to revisit this world and build something even more ambitious “Aggelos 2 is not just a sequel — it’s a true evolution that still stays true to what made the original so loved.
