Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree Announced as New Roguelite Experience

Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, a 2D isometric roguelite developed by Brownies Inc. The title is scheduled for release on 19 September 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, and is now available to pre-order. The game was officially unveiled during the Summer Game Fest, accompanied by the below reveal trailer.

Set in a faraway land, the narrative follows Towa, a priestess from the peaceful village of Shinju, and her eight companions as they confront the malevolent Magatsu. While the game’s visual style evokes the softness of Japanese ink paintings, this aesthetic contrast belies a looming danger that players must face head-on.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree places a strong emphasis on fast-paced action, with players selecting two Guardians for each quest. One wields the sacred sword Tsurugi, while the other carries the magical staff Kagura. Each Guardian possesses distinct skillsets that can be unlocked and upgraded within dungeons or through a meta-progression system found in Shinju Village.

Players can also collect materials to craft and enhance swords, allowing for a range of combat strategies depending on the chosen Guardian pairing. As the story unfolds across multiple timelines, the village of Shinju evolves, revealing deeper insights into its residents’ customs and personal stories. These narrative threads aim to add emotional weight to the game’s dungeon-crawling and boss encounters.

The project features a hand-drawn artistic style and an original soundtrack by composer Hitoshi Sakimoto, known for his work on several celebrated Japanese role-playing games.
