SEGA Confirms Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Launch for September 2025

During the 2025 Summer Game Fest livestream, SEGA officially announced that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be launching on 25 September 2025.

The title is now available to pre-order digitally for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. Physical pre-orders are also open for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, and Nintendo Switch Lite, with a version for the Nintendo Switch 2 confirmed for a later date. A paid upgrade path will be offered for players upgrading from the standard Switch version. Players who pre-order the game will receive access to an exclusive character: Sonic the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed, along with a unique vehicle and decal.

CrossWorlds features a character roster drawn from across the Sonic the Hedgehog universe and beyond. SEGA confirmed post-launch updates will introduce even more characters, including recognisable faces from other SEGA franchises like Joker from Persona 5, Kasuga Ichiban from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and even virtual idol Hatsune Miku. These characters will be made available to all players at no additional cost.

In addition, a Season Pass will be available, further expanding the playable roster with new guest characters, vehicles, and tracks based on popular entertainment franchises. One confirmed collaboration includes content inspired by Minecraft.

Gameplay in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set across a wide variety of settings, including land, sea, air, and even time and space. Using new mechanics such as “Travel Rings”, players can leap between dimensions mid-race, creating dynamic and unpredictable race conditions. Races can be tackled solo or in teams, with offline and online multiplayer options available.

Players will also be able to customise their racing experience through a deep vehicle customisation system and a selection of over 70 Gadgets. These can be equipped before each race to influence vehicle performance and power-ups, offering more tactical variety.

Further updates and announcements about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, including additional details on content and upgrade paths, are expected in the lead-up to launch.
