Gotcha Gotcha Games has launched Action Game Maker, the newest entry in the long-running Maker series, on PC via Steam as of today. This latest toolkit joins predecessors such as RPG Maker and Pixel Game Maker MV, aiming to provide both aspiring and experienced developers with an accessible and versatile platform for creating their own action games – quite a different genre from their flagship turn-based RPG development software series. The kicker is that Action Game Maker has launched at a price of $99.99 USD, which may be a little out of the price range of anyone who is just curious about developing their own short action game.
Action Game Maker is designed to streamline the development process, offering a wide range of features that cater to both newcomers and veterans in game development. Users can utilise a large library of included assets or import their own, enabling a unique visual style for each project. The toolkit’s visual node system allows creators to connect “Actions” and build a variety of game genres, from action platformers to shooters and puzzle games, without the need for programming knowledge.
The toolkit is powered by Godot Engine 4.3, equipping developers with advanced features such as intuitive UI creation, sprite and 2D bone animation systems, as well as dynamic lighting and particle effects. For those looking to delve deeper, Action Game Maker offers support for GDScript, providing a path for users to expand their skills beyond visual scripting.
To mark the release, a fully-featured demo is available to try until 19 June 2025. An introductory sale will run from 16 June to 30 June, offering the software at a 10 percent discount. Additionally, early adopters who purchase Action Game Maker by 21 July will receive the Maker All-Stars Skin Pack at no extra cost. This pack features 20 classic characters from the Maker series and can be integrated with the toolkit’s animation system. After 21 July, the skin pack will be available as downloadable content.
Yusuke Morino, Producer at Gotcha Gotcha Games, commented on the launch:
We are proud to bring ACTION GAME MAKER to the broader game development community. ACTION GAME MAKER builds on the node-based visual scripting system developed in previous entries in the ‘Maker’ series and brings it into the modern programming era with Godot Engine. We are looking forward to seeing all of the amazing games everyone will create!
