Capcom has reawakened one of its action titles from more than two decades ago with the remastered release of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, now available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. Originally launched in 2002, the samurai-themed survival action game returns with enhanced visuals and a suite of quality-of-life improvements, aiming to offer both nostalgia and modern comfort to returning fans and new players alike.
Set in a mythologised version of Sengoku-era Japan, the game follows Jubei Yagyu, a lone swordsman drawn into a battle against demonic forces after his village is destroyed by Nobunaga Oda’s army. Gifted with mysterious Oni powers, Jubei embarks on a path of vengeance through a dark, supernatural world that blends Japanese folklore with fast-paced combat and dramatic storytelling.
The remaster introduces refined controls, seamless weapon switching, auto-save, skippable cutscenes, and new difficulty modes—including the punishing “Hell” mode for veterans and an “Easy” mode accessible from the outset. Players can also access a broad gallery of more than 100 pieces of concept art and 43 music tracks, along with mini-games such as The Man in Black and Puzzle Phantom Realm, now unlocked from the start.
Core to Samurai’s Destiny is its unique affinity system, which influences the game’s branching narrative based on player choices and interactions with allies. With different outcomes and multiple paths to explore, replayability is a key part of the experience. Players with save data from the Onimusha: Warlords remaster will also unlock a bonus costume for Jubei, while the newly released Onimusha 1 + 2 Pack bundle offers both remastered titles for those looking to revisit or begin their journey through Capcom’s demonic historical journey.
