Solo developer Nullpointer Games has confirmed that its upcoming narrative RPG The Horror at Highrook will be released for PC via Steam on 1 May 2025. The announcement was made during the recent Lovecraftian Days showcase, where a new release date trailer was also premiered.
The Horror at Highrook invites players to delve into the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of the noble Ackeron family from Highrook Manor. Set in a dark Victorian world inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, and Bram Stoker, the game blends gothic horror with tabletop-style gameplay and card-based mechanics.
Players will manage a team of occult investigators—Vitali the Scholar, Astor the Mecanist, Atticus the Hireling, and Caligar the Plague Doctor—as they uncover sinister secrets, craft protective tools, and confront otherworldly entities. The gameplay emphasises exploration, survival, and a nonlinear crafting system that allows for the creation of items, potions, and rituals using a combination of characters, items, and locations.
The Horror at Highbrook sets out to offer players “a uniquely tactile and mysterious experience” through its card-driven gameplay, hand-illustrated visuals, and branching narrative, which gradually reveals the manor’s hidden past.
A free demo featuring the opening chapter is available now via Steam. The full release will be available for PC on 1 May 2025 via Steam.
