NACON and Midgar Studio have announced Edge of Memories, a new action role-playing game set in the universe of Edge of Eternity. Scheduled for release in late 2025, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Edge of Memories introduces a new story within the world of Heryon. The title aims to offer an experience suitable for both existing fans and newcomers, combining elements of Japanese role-playing games with artistic influences from French animation.
Set on the continent of Avaris, the game follows Eline, a travelling Soul Whisperer with the ability to heal those afflicted by a deadly plague known as the Corrosion, which transforms humans and wildlife into dangerous creatures. Throughout the journey, players will encounter themes including mass migration, a world suffering from disease, the search for origins, and the challenge of adapting to constant change.
Unlike its predecessor’s turn-based combat, Edge of Memories features real-time, action-oriented gameplay. Players will be able to utilise Eline’s abilities, execute combination attacks alongside her two companions, and harness a powerful Berserk form to overcome enemies.
The project involves several notable contributors from the Japanese role-playing genre, including character designer Raita Kazama (Xenoblade Chronicles X), writer Sawako Natori (NieR), singer Emi Evans (NieR, NieR: Automata), and composers Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears) and Mariam Abounnasr (Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Oninaki).
Speaking about the announcement, Jérémy Zeler-Maury, CEO of Midgar Studio, said the team is excited to evolve the franchise while delivering a new gameplay experience:
We are thrilled to expand the world of the Edge of franchise with a new instalment that takes on a fresh artistic direction and marks a turning point in gameplay, shifting from the strategic turn-based style of its predecessor in favour of a more dynamic and immersive action RPG approach. As true JRPG enthusiasts, we have poured a lot of love into this project, and we can’t wait to share it with both fans of the genre and newcomers alike.
