A new free update for DEATH NOTE: Killer Within is now available, introducing a new gameplay dynamic with the addition of a brand-new playable role: Mello. Alongside this update, new paid downloadable content (DLC) featuring premium avatars and customisation options has also been released.
Previously, players aligned themselves with either Team Kira or Team L, taking on one of four roles—Kira, his followers, L, or his investigators. However those who have read the Death Note manga or watched the anime will know that there were other forces in play, particularly during the latter half. This latest update adds a fifth role with Mello. Unlike other characters, Mello operates independently, with the objective of eliminating Kira before Team L can do so, positioning himself as a rival to both sides.
Mello’s gameplay mechanics introduce a new layer of strategy. He has the ability to fire a gun once per action phase to eliminate a player without confirming their identity beforehand. However, gunshots are audible to nearby players, requiring careful timing and discretion. A critical risk is that if Mello accidentally eliminates L, Team Kira will automatically win. To achieve victory, Mello must gain L’s trust, assume the role of an arrester, and successfully eliminate Kira.
