Square Enix has announced that Foamstars, their 4v4 online ‘foam’ shooter, is now free-to-play on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The game is also available to all players, regardless of whether they have a PlayStation Plus subscription. Players who previously downloaded Foamstars can continue playing without any interruptions. At this point in time, there has been no announced plans to release Foamstars outside of the PlayStation network.
In addition to the free-to-play update, Square Enix has also launched Diamond Jam, the eighth season of Foamstars, which runs until 7 November 2024. This season introduces several new features, including “Diamond Chips” that can be earned in-game and exchanged for items such as skins, emotes, and slideboards through the “Diamond Trade” system. Players can also receive Diamond Chips as part of a special login bonus celebrating the new season.
Five new maps have been added to the “Smash the Star” mode, including Shoreline Shoppin’ Spree, Rubber Duck’s Spa-larious Oasis, and Dancefloor Dreamland. Additionally, four extra maps from Happy Bath Survival are available in the “Private Party” mode.
New “Wave” boss battles are now available in the “Squad Missions” mode, alongside limited-time seasonal events. Among these events is the “Ranked Party”, where players can compete individually or as a team to climb ranked ladders, and “Extreme Party”, which features multiple events with special rules.
Players who own the Diamond Jam season pass will receive exclusive in-game rewards, including a foam gun skin for The Baristador, slideboard skins, and a character skin for Ramzey. Progressing through the season tiers will unlock further rewards, with additional bonuses available to those who purchase the Premium Season Pass for $5.99 USD or local equivalent.
