Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will be released on 6 March 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. As one would expect from its title, this is a remaster of the first two games in the long-running RPG franchise, released in 1995 and 1998 initially for the original PlayStation.
Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars aims to retain the original story and style of the early stages of the series, while introducing new quality-of-life enhancements, improved visuals, and updated gameplay mechanics.
Konami has confirmed several key improvements and features for this remaster collection:
Graphical Enhancements: The remaster will feature updated pixel sprites and environment art, complemented by new screen effects such as enhanced lighting, cloud movements, shadow animations, flickering flames, smouldering smoke, and moving leaves and insects. The effects and direction have also been redesigned.
New Character Drawings: All character portraits have been updated in high definition. Junko Kawano, the original character designer for Suikoden, has re-drawn each character portrait for the remaster.
Sound Improvements: The remaster will also include significant audio enhancements. A wide range of environmental sounds, such as running water, wind, insect noises, and footsteps, seek to provide a more immersive experience. Battle sound effects have been upgraded to high definition, with enhanced 3D effects included as well.
Gameplay System Improvements: Several new features have been added, including dialogue logs, an auto-battle function, and double-speed battle options.
